Q & A

What drew you to aviation? Riding on DC-3’s as a very young child.

How long have you been involved in aviation education? Since the late 1970’s.

What’s your favorite part of what you do in aviation education? Sharing the joy.

What’s your least favorite part of what you do in aviation education? The low esteem that some employers seem to have of flight instructors.

Do you have a memorable aviation experience you’d like to share? There are so many! That short hop flying the Wright B Flyer; towing banners along the Chicago shoreline; water landings on that perfect lake; thermalling for 7 hrs in a Vickers Slingsby Vega; those couple of hrs in a Stearman; ANY time I climb into a Super Cub!

Why did you join SAFE? Networking…I’m developing an aviation career strand program for my school district.

What would you like to see change in aviation? Greater and easier access to aviation for kids.

Any suggestions on how the above might be accomplished? Partnerships with public schools.
